Air Compressor

20th of May,our first task was to do a research on the compressor . Our compressor was an air compressor type 30 from Ingersoll Rand

This was the type of compressor that we were working on.

First ,we removed the fuse for the compressor since it was connected to an electrical supply.
It was not that easy since the compressor have never been opened or dismantled before,between each body part ,there was something like a glue paste which makes it hard to remove each part.

Waie had to use a chisel and a hammer to loosen each body part,then we were able to continue our work .The  working of an air compressor was not that difficult,when we are learning theoretically we could imagine how an air compressor works, but then with the additional of practical work,we could see how the air compressor actually work.

Dismantling Centrifugal pump

May 13th,back in the marine workshop,we've dismantled a centrifugal pump

It was a 2 1/2 foot long pump but it weighs more than I thought . No one would ever thought it would weight that heavy. Rather than wasting time waiting for others moving their pumps, we tried to shared our strength, pulled the centrifugal pump away from the place it was placed .

When we were done moving it, we were like the "A-team" ,working together ,quickly and perfectly . I took the tool box, took out the adjustable spanner and everyone loosen all the nuts and bolts.

Removed all the parts,place it perfectly on the ground and was assembled to the way it was removed to prevent us from forgetting which one was the first to be put on.

It was easy though, there were not much parts inside the centrifugal pump.

By the way ,it was a pump for water,not air.

30 minutes before the class ends,a group have finished earlier than us. We were pressured that we werent able to stay the first to finish every workshop practise. Our focus was then back to the pump . We reassembled the pump in not more than 5 minutes ,that was an amazing teamwork.

Our First Workshop of the Semester

On April 6th,it was the first of the year to enter a workshop and start working on things we should know as a future engineer.

In afternoon,we were instructed by Cikgu Iskandar ( Sir Izzy ) , Cikgu Khairul Hajri ( Sir Moe) , Cikgu Zulfadhli , and Cikgu Fauzi .

First, we were splint into 4 groups of 5, two groups are more fortunate with extra person since we are 22 people in the class . My group is with Rimey , Waie , Zulhafizan and Zimah .

The first task was to choose a team leader and to take a tool box from the workshop technician, we didnt choose a leader but I voluntarily took the tool box, since we all know that no one wants to have a big responsibility put onto ourself when tools are missing.

While I was taking the toolbox, the others were choosing which Valve were to be chosen to be work on. They chose a single way water valve .It was heavier than it looked .

To begin our task,we need to look for spanner which fits properly with the bolts to dismantle the valve. Dismantling the valve was an easy task , we were way ahead of other groups . But lest we know that we had make a mistake of removing the spindle earlier . The first thing we should remove after the valve cover was the valve disc by turning the spindle , it didn't took long to reattach the spindle and remove the valve disc , we have no worries of the time since we were still ahead of other group .

All the parts removed was assembled on a table so that we could know where each things come , either its the top or bottom , from screws , bolts to nuts .

All the moving parts was greased ,this process is to prevent from parts getting corrosion and rusty . The valve disc was smudged with grinding paste and flattened on the surface table with an 8 shaped circular motion . This process must be carried out carefully, not to create any scratch on the lining to prevent water leak in the valve.

A paper gasket was made for in between the casing . After all parts have been reassembled, it was then lied down sidewards and filled one side of the valve opening and check if there was any leak (the disc was closed at this time fyi) . IT WAS PERFECT ! NOT A SINGLE DROP ! 

Alhamdulillah and thank you to the instructors who were kind enough to describe all the parts inside a valve and help us a little in the workshop , we ended up being the first group to finish our task .

ED assignments

Alhamdulillah , i've handed my Engineering Drawing assignments to cikgu Saini Ali. The task was well done in a short time during the first term holiday .

The date I hand in my work was on 4.4.2013 , it was raining that day,from 10 in the morning , I was lucky I had took it earlier from my car or I could not hand it in one piece.

Helping Out at the hall

2-4-2013 , a day before second phase test for other courses . We helped Babu Munah (College Cleaner) carrying and rearranging tables and chairs in the hall for Wednesday where students will have their test .

We always help out Babu Munah to carry stuffs when we are free and she's in need of some hand . The reason we always help her is that , She's an elderly woman who could not afford to carry heavy things , and secondly, to make good deeds when we are in our best of health .

APRIL FIRST!

During our Language & Communication subject in the morning , Miss Ziana present a few slides on how to prepare a good presentation and how to make it attractive so that viewers would be entertained and attracted on what I would present.

Here's the fun part, in the afternoon, Miss Ziana granted her promise , she told us to sing only the chorus of any song of our choice .

We chose "What makes you beautiful - One Direction" since we dont have much choice.

First we sang in a group , then the most interesting part is when one person is pointed out to sing alone . This was to help overcome fright and shyness .

A video of this will be uploaded in future , I have to take it form my friend who took the videos.

The climax was our teacher turn to sing, her voice was so beautiful ,even if Simon Cowell listen to it he'll just be speechless.

National Day Celebration

I am proud to be Bruneian,but I didnt get the chance to join the march past this year,I didnt get to enjoy the sweat and cheer of the celebration,but I had experienced it in 2010 which was the 25th national day and in 2012 (my first year in MKJB)

My only prayer to Allah is that to keep peace in Brunei Darussalam , to make Brunei a richer and prosperous country and I hope one day I could make a something so that Brunei can be proud of.

Melayu Islam Beraja Presentation

February 7th and 14th,We were divided into groups,this group was from last year's assignment group for MIB , I was in group 7,we talked about "Corruption". We all know what corruption is,we talked like we were from the Anti Corruption Bureau.

There are actually 6 of us,but unfortunately one of us can't make it since he had a national day march past practice. we are Faiz,Ayoi,Yusof,Steven,Aqil(the person who was M.I.A) and myself.

At the end of the class,we just knew that there was points given for this presentation.....I felt bad I didnt talk like someone who had a PHD in corruption,but I was just glad that everything went well.

We are the teachers

i dont really remember when it happen but it was somewhere in february,our teacher miss.sia introduced a new method of learning maths,she chose few people out of 44 students in the class and asked them to teach for a topic the next lesson which is only few days gap.

I was so bad that i laughed at those chosen to be the "teachers" for next lesson. Not being chosen,it feels so peace at heart and mind.

Karma is around us,thats what my friend always says,why?next week its my turn,miss.sia pointed at me and I was blank at first,when she asked my name,I never want to tell my name so that I wouldnt be listed,I chuckled and said my name was "Ammar",she knew I am not "Ammar" so she asked others what my name was,there,my turn came and I had to teach a topic about triangle,SAS,SSS and......is there another one? i dont remember for sure.

It went well,Azizan was really good at maths,for sure he'll get good marks for that,I mean that teaching part,I didnt know that the teaching part was given marks to individual that are teaching until the class ended,I felt sorry for myself that I didnt prepare well for my teaching....I hope she have told me earlier...

Parents Teacher Meeting

9th february 2013,it was on saturday as i remember it. Parents Teacher Meeting was head at the college multi purpose hall.

Too bad my parents could not come since they were busy in Bandar Seri Begawan meeting me sisters' teacher.

This PT was targeted to make parents aware of how their child are in college and know the performance in classes and exams.

Closing Ceremony of Dzikir Maulud

A day before we celebrate Maulidur rasul ,we had a closing ceremony which was celebrated in the surau.

Our guest of honour on that day was Cikgu Pg.Hassani and also some staffs from MKJB , Cikgu Saini and Cikgu Jemee .

Dzikir Maulud

a week before Maulidur Rasul was celebrated in Brunei Darussalam,we as part of Muslims ignite the days with dzikir,in MKJB we have dzikir at the college surau.

Alhamdulillah , this year there are more than 20 students registered for the dzikir maulud,it was much more than last year.

The dzikir was led by Ustaz Hasryn afted zuhur prayer.

What a great way to end our first semester

November 2012 ,the last two days before holiday was spent with a great college function in the track and field next to Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium .

Five colleges meet up to show their best men,MKJB,MTSSR,SVSB,SVNR,SP were gathered for the sports meet.

It was held for two days,we screamed and supported our athletes till our voices sounds rough.

Final year Proposal Presentation

January 2013,happy new year to everyone,i greeted almost everyone i met in college,as it was the first day of college,we start our day with task from our IT Instructor,he asked us to make our own idea and create something related to marine.

I had many ideas , but I dont know if i could make that idea work and if it will work well,then i came up with an idea of making a boat for cruise,running on electric motor . I will show the slides in future when i update this post.

Back to the proposal, the reason i chose this proposal is to make people save their money to buy fuel . This boat rely on solar power which are charged onto batteries and runs an electric motor .

people may ask,what if the sun didn't come out? we have an outboard motor as a standby and 3 gallons of fuel,if one is not enough .

one day i want to make my idea comes to real and can be commercialize

the last week of Holiday

Christmas coming soon,thats what i was thinking,but snow never came,i know that we live in an equatorial climate,but i'd love to travel to a country with snow,it doesnt have to be so far away,as long as i'm enjoying it,like Japan or Korea.

My grandmother had her birthday celebration on Christmas day ,everyone gathered for the feast and had a great time together since all of our families are busy people with their own business to handle,that was the only time to get together again and get closer to each other again after a long break.

Second week of holiday

12December,It was normal, not going anywhere since my parents are busy,just playing games at home and still working on my assignment , it was on Industrial Gas Turbine, it was hard as rock .

Doing the assignment was like opening a canned food with a fork.Although it was the only assignment for the holiday.

I take my time very well,"i have 3 weeks,why should i rush" i said.

In the evening , i helped out cleaning my garden area since my eldest sister was going to have her engagement next week , so i had to break a sweat to make things go clean and sound.

Holiday

For a month,i had nothing to do at home other than working on my assignments and helping with house works . Its better i worked at home than just being a couch potato .

I did not really enjoy my holiday like others did, visiting other country , all i did was watching movies that i did not get to watch all this time since July to November , that's a lot of time wasted in front of the television and i enjoyed it although its not quite adventurous like others did.

Rule of life is "enjoy every little things" and I just did that.

Majlis Takzirah Sambutan Awal Tahun Baru 1434 Hijrah & Conversion ceremony for one of MKJB student

every student in MKJB came to the pandan mosque on 25 of november 2012 to celebrate Maal Hijrah and the conversion ceremony of one of the mkjb student

its a great day to celebrate,everyone were dressed in the malay traditional clothing

Discipline Briefing

22nd november 2012- All mkjb students was called to the multipurpose hall to be briefed up with the discipline that the have come up with for the past few years .

From attires to class attendance,it was led by the newly appointed " head of discipline " Cikgu Zahrina , Cikgu Bohari (Councelor) ,Cikgu Sofian and Cikgu Pg Hassani .

First was about class attendance , what we know is that if a student only have below 85% attendance per month,he will be considered absent for the whole month and have no allowance at all,thats the worst part for students that are so desperate for the money.

Then it comes to bullying,we all know that bullying happens in all places even in offices. Bullying are of few types ,from emotionally , physically or verbally . It is very serious case to be a bully or the person bullied ,which can lead to student not attending college or even worst quitting college . This is why Student representatives are elected to prevent such things to happen within the class .

The last are just basic rules such as long hair,spiky hair,long nails and white shoes which are normal discipline rules since primary school .

Exam week

November was always the first month of our first phase test. This time,we are having seven subjects for our first phase test ,more than any other courses . Well, everyone thought that marine struggles so hard during our exams , infact , we didnt really struggle that much, if we had enough revision ,we would not have to struggle .

This was one thing that gets to the new intakes mind,"what if we dont make it ?"

No one knows what the question would be including the instuctors himself,since the paper was hand picked by the examination department out of 3 paper,this was to prevent teachers to give out question papers to students as a revision paper

Well,that's not fair if you think thoroughly,but revision paper are given by the instructors ,this was to help the students know what are the few most frequent questions to have in the examination.

This was to help a little,the other part are from the student himself.

2 hours of revision for a day is worth a distinction in the exam ,dont you agree?

Fire Marshall course

8th - 10th october, Fire Marshall course was given to bkp's and sr's

In this 2 day's course, not all students get the chance to be chosen to attend the course ,thats one of a bad thing if we rethink again.

The training was fun as how i heard my friends who took part in it, too bad i wasnt the bkp or sr.

From flying fox,to handling of the hoses with high pressure water was taught

Workshop Practise

11 September,our first workshop of the semester was welding and fabrication ,we have done fabrication during our pre-national diploma,now its welding.

Our workshop instructor was Cikgu Awang Dayang , he's a very fun and funny person to make a friend,but could get serious sometimes ,well, most of the time not that serious.

whats welding?

Well, its a method to join two metals together with the use of oxy-acetylene which is a mixture of oxygen and acetylene gas which creates a high temperature flame out of a torch.

Not everyone can weld a metal very well,it takes time and a lot of practice.

At first I was not even able to weld in a straight line, it was like a snake's trail. Like wine,it just gets better with time,I have improved after 3 weeks of welding.

First thing to consider in every work area , "SAFETY" , most important thing is you safety goggles,fire resistant gloves are also necessary at certain times,especially when handling arc welding

Hari Raya Celebration

19 September 2012 ,It may seem too late to celebrate hari raya since it has passed a few months back , but the spirit of celebrating hari raya was still in the air.

Our College held hari raya celebration in all departments ,everyone were brightfully seen in their 'baju melayu' or 'baju kurung' which is the traditional clothing of the Malay people.

The theme was 'arabian style' ,it sounds fascinating as some guys wear the arabian clothings and girls cover their faces just how some arabian girls do .

It started in the multipupose hall, everyone gathered in the hall , every courses have their performer ready backstage. Some are singing and acting to entertain everyone and also to light up the day.

The celebration was officialised by the Principal.

Marine Department have our band prepared with just few days of practise and we did very well. Thanks to the cooperation from everyone taking part and the teachers to let them have their own time practising.

In the end of the hall event, it was ended with price giving to the best dresses from the staff to the students .

We have moved in!

Early in the third week of September we're done moving in to the all new Marine Engineering own building.

The whole week have been contributed to help our instructors moving every belongings from the old block to the new building. .

We used our strength, every drop of sweat was filled with joy, moving into our own building means having our own classroom which we don't during our Pre-National Diploma (PND) but it was a great experience to move around the college, get to know others from Computer and Networking Department , Electrical & Electronics Department, Building & Services Department , Plant Engineering Department and Mechanical Engineering Department including our seniors classroom . Almost all Classroom in the college have been used by us.

Insyaallah , I will upload the pictures in future since i dont have access to this computer directly , remember my last post about my laptop, well this is my fathers' laptop

This is the second time

Greetings Bloggers and Readers, before i start anything, i would like to apologize for not being able to have come up with new posts every week and i am way behind others(friends) . So consider this my second post for second week of September.

The reason for this is that my laptop adapter have gone mad at me, first it cant be switched on when the adapter is cold,so i need to make a few magic by rubbing the adapter for a minute (this create friction and the adapter is warmed up, but  this trick don't always work,so i came up with another idea,more heat,so i took a hair dryer and warm it up for 20-30 seconds and tadaaa! works like a charm.

 maybe i should change to a new one , don't you think so?

After awhile my laptop did not work like it used , maybe it gave up on its life i guess (its been eight years since my mother bought it in 2006,now its already 2013), tried everything to make the adapter work, none were to a success .

Once again I would apologize to my  instructor, bloggers , readers and my friends .
